Opportunities for beauty do exist even in the rubble of heartbreaking losses.

An 86-year-old gentleman began noticing small changes and oddities in the behavior his beloved 79-year-old wife of 60 years.   Each passing day came with unfortunate new developments in her condition and also with deep sorrow as he realized his “Lovey” was leaving him a little bit everyday.   He turned away as often as could from focusing on his own pain and turned instead to focusing on his wife and how he could brighten her life.  These flowers he planted for her, directly in her line of sight from her favorite sitting place.

Dementia is a thief and saboteur of dignity and life.  So cruel this end is.   Until an effective treatment is found families must cope as best they can.  Thankfully there are ways to do this that bring much needed beauty into an excruciating journey.
