MedPage reports only 8% of males in NHANES cohort received HPV vaccine.

Robert Brannigan, MD, professor of urology at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, speculated there could be several reasons for low vaccination rates among young males.

“I think we should continue to optimize our efforts to help educate our colleagues who are providing care to these young males and females,” Brannigan said. “We need to stress that while preventing genital warts is very important, HPV is about more than just genital warts. Vaccination can help break the cycle of HPV transmission that results in large numbers of deaths due to cervical cancer, and to a lesser extent penile cancer, in the U.S. every year.”
