Introducing a pathogen or the smallest antigenic determinant of that pathogen works with traditional vaccines, however creating a vaccine to attack altered self cells has been challenging. The MIT Technology Review reports though the results from two new studies. Designing a vaccine to teach the immune system to attack specific wayward cells unique to the patient shows promise.
