A study published in Pediatrics yesterday, reported maternal vaccination was associated with a 70% lower risk of an infant 6 months of age or younger having laboratory confirmed influenza. University of Utah School of Medicine researchers evaluated the medical records of infants born to women from December 2005 to March 2014. This is particularly promising news for infants in this age group, since the influenza vaccine isn’t indicated until 6 months of age and older.
